Nu-Wave Optima -- a next generation flexible platform has been introduced by Xtera Communications (News - Alert), Inc., a premier global provider of optical and IP networking solutions, for long haul, regional, and metro DWDM applications.
High capacity and performance is delivered by Nu-Wave Optima, with service-specific networks converging into multi-service networks. It also simplifies the overall network infrastructure and operation.
The service providers, with the help of the new platform are allowed to efficiently scale and tailor multi-purpose network architectures using a common set of high density next generation modules. The modular design of Nu-Wave Optima brings unprecedented network and service flexibility and a lower cost of ownership.
"The flexible Nu-Wave Optima platform establishes a new standard for network convergence," Jon Hopper, president and chief executive officer of Xtera, said. "With a common, integrated set of plug and play modules for long-haul, regional, and metro applications, service providers and major enterprises have broad flexibility to customize their services and scale their networks according to their specific needs. Operators and enterprises can realize immediate operational efficiencies, such as reductions in the number of spares and equipment training, lowering their total cost of ownership without sacrificing capacity and performance."
Nu-Wave Optima helps customers to future-proof their optical infrastructure. The service providers and enterprises, with Xtera's implementation of 100G-ready All-Raman and hybrid EDFA/Raman amplification on the Nu-Wave Optima, can maximize the capacity of their existing fiber plant without costly re-engineering or complex infrastructure upgrades.
Xtera's unique All-Raman amplification can increase capacity up to 15 Terabits per second, whenever the bandwidth requirements continue to increase. The scalability and flexibility that service providers and enterprises need to quickly deploy the revenue generating services required by their customers, is provided by the fully-tunable XFP-based universal 10G muxponders supporting applications and services such as Ethernet, SONET/SDH, SAN, and video.
The Nu-Wave Optima platform, for added flexibility and increased network availability, includes state-of-the-art multi-degree ROADMs, allowing linear, ring, and mesh topologies to be deployed.
Xtera's Nu-Wave Network Management System, a unified management system that provides a true end-to-end network management transport solution, manages and monitors, Nu-Wave Optima. The service providers and enterprises, through Nu-Wave Optima, combined with the integrated NMS, are able to build next generation optical transport networks and meet the demands of the service evolution.
In related news, Xtera Communications Inc., a global provider of optical and IP networking solutions, has acquired Polariq Ltd., a company specializing in solutions for polarization mode dispersion or PMD.
