10 Gigabit Ethernet Will Knock Your Socks Off

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Are you looking for a way to literally knock the socks off of your upper level management? To get this kind of reaction, you have to come up with something that makes a drastic difference in operations and costs. Chelsio Communications (News - Alert) is offering 10 Gigabit Ethernet solutions that are sure to streamline operations and lower costs. Not completely convinced?

Check out the video on the company’s homepage. The featured individuals share some of the perks that Chelsio 10 Gigabit Ethernet provides. For one, the company is enjoying an improved network and a very measurable benefit to the bottom line. Plus, the energy efficiency and green approach to the 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology allows the company to reduce its carbon footprint and capitalize on the marketability of this environmental approach.

Even better, the 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology is reducing CPU utilization by up to 90 percent. Not many products in this space can make this claim. The solution also maximizes equipment densities and minimizes power consumption – a key considerable for all companies running a data center today.

And, with the versatility and scalability of the Chelsio 10 Gigabit Ethernet platform, the company can reduce its investments in hardware just to make a change to the number of users or equipment that can be supported on the network. The two employees featured in the video are just sure the benefits will knock the boss’s socks off – which actually happens in the video. If you want a good laugh, check out the video in full.

All kidding aside, the demand for 10 Gigabit Ethernet is growing as a result of the benefits it has proven to deliver to the enterprise. As captured in the video shared above, this technology does offer considerable benefits, but the enterprise does need to weigh the benefits against the cost of implementation as it is no easy task. A complete needs assessment and evaluation of the environment should be completed first to determine that this is the right move for the company.

In other 10 Gigabit Ethernet news, Symmetricom (News - Alert), a company focused on precision time and frequency technologies, and Telco Systems, a multi-service carrier access company and provider of demarcation solutions, have partnered together to offer a complete mobile backhaul solution using Carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS as transport technologies. Telco Systems has successfully implemented Symmetricom’s embedded solution to supports IEEE (News - Alert) 1588v2 PTP standard for their mobile backhaul applications.
