SEMICON West 2012 to Showcase Advances in LEDs, MEMS, and Plastic Electronics Manufacturing

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAN FRANCISCO, May 1 -- The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International issued the following news release: As companies in the high-brightness LED (HB-LED), MEMS, and plastic electronics markets continue to pursue Moore's Law-like progress in their respective fields, new developments in manufacturing materials and process technologies are enabling advances in product performance, efficiency, and cost reduction that are bringing more products to market and expandaing the commercial adoption. Speakers from Cree, Seoul Semiconductor, Micralyne, InvenSense, Hanking, Panasonic and more will discuss the latest manufacturing and technology trends at SEMICON West 2012, in the Extreme Electronics "show-within-the-show" exhibit area. SEMICON West will be held July 10-12 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

While LEDs, MEMS, and plastic electronics are becoming increasingly pervasive in consumer and commercial electronics, each of these technologies contend with manufacturing challenges that threaten to hinder their commercial progress and the development of innovative new electronic products. Lower-cost solid state lighting solutions, sensors, and organic displays and lighting are just some of the products whose futures depend on continued advances in microelectronics manufacturing. The exhibits and presentations at Extreme Electronics highlight manufacturing issues and solutions unique to these emerging technologies. The co-location of LED, MEMS, and plastic electronics-focused exhibitors within the framework of SEMICON West is aimed at maximizing the synergies between semiconductors and related adjacent markets, as each share many of the same manufacturing materials, equipment, and processes.

Extreme Electronics Sessions at SEMICON West 2012 In addition to scores of exhibitors featuring products and technologies dedicated to emerging market technologies, Extreme Electronics will feature more than 25 free technical presentations on the Extreme Electronics technology stage, located on the show floor. Scheduled technical sessions include: MEMS * Taking MEMS to the Next Level: Transitioning to a Profitable High-Volume Business; Tuesday, July 10, 10:30am-3:30pm. Speakers addressing practical solutions for scaling industry growth include: InvenSense, Yole DASveloppement, Hillcrest Labs, Coventor, Hanking Electronics, Micralyne, Applied Materials, Nikon, ScanNano, NIST and more. Session partner: MEMS Industry Group.

LEDs/Solid State Lighting * Enabling the Next-Generation of HB-LEDs; Wednesday, July 11, 10:30am-3:30pm. Speakers discussing the current state of some disruptive technologies and solutions for improving manufacturing yields include: Cree, Soraa, Everlight Electronics, EV Group, Canaccord Genuity, LayTec AG, Seoul Semiconductor, Lattice Power, Yole DASveloppement, GT Advanced Technologies and more.

Plastic/Printed Electronics * Practical Plastic Electronics: Bringing Disruptive Flexible and Organic Materials into Volume Electronics Manufacturing; Thursday, July 12, 10:30am-1:00pm. Speakers discussing the state of progress in OLED displays and lighting, solid state batteries, and flexible mounting of rigid die include: IMEC, Panasonic, DisplaySearch, Imprint Energy, Applied Materials, and MC 10. Session partner: FlexTech Alliance.
