Digium Rounds Out Switchvox Appliance Portfolio

Digium, the Asterisk (News - Alert) company, has announced the latest member of the Switchvox appliance family, the Digium|Switchvox AA300 appliance.

 

The new offering is described as a flexible, easy-to-use IP PBX (News - Alert) based on Digium’s Asterisk software, designed to serve mid-sized enterprises with up to 150 users.

 

According to Tristan Degenhardt, Product Line Director for Digium (News - Alert)|Switchvox, the new offering fits perfectly into the product line.

 

“We recently announced the AA60, which is a smaller appliance for companies with up to 30 employees, as well as the AA350, which serves up to 400 users. The AA300 fits squarely in the middle, as it’s designed for about 150 users.”

 

“Not only in capacity,” Degenhardt continued, “but the physical size of the appliance is in between the two as well. The AA60 is a tiny, little box designed to wall mount, appropriate for a small business with not a lot of room; the AA 350 is a full-depth 3U rackmountable machine; and the AA300 can also be rackmounted. It too is 3U high, but it’s half-depth, and can be deployed on a desktop rather easily.”

 

The AA300 supports up to 150 users and up to 45 simultaneous calls. It also supports up to 10 recorded calls and up to 15 simultaneous conference calls.

 

Degenhardt pointed out that regardless of the appliance, and the target market, they all run the same software.

 

“It’s the same software across all the different appliances,” she said. “The AA60 also runs our SOHO software as well, so there’s Switchvox (News - Alert) SOHO and Switchvox SMB.”

 

This announcement really speaks to the fact that in the three-quarters of a year since Digium acquired Switchvox, the company has experienced no loss in momentum.

 

Said Degenhardt, “It didn’t slow us down. It’s only been nine months since the acquisition, and we’ve released these three products, we’ve merged the reseller program, and the Switchvox products have been doing phenomenally well with the established Digium resellers.”

 

Reaction from the reseller/distributor community has Degenhardt energized as well.

 

“We were blown away by how well [the two previous products] were adopted by the channel, and we expect that the 300 has a chance at being more successful, and we’re very excited by that.”

 

“We’re attracting new and different resellers to the Digium program because Switchvox is so accessible. You don’t need to have a ton of expertise in voice over IP, you don’t need to know Asterisk, but at the same time we were very pleased to find that the resellers that have been selling standard Asterisk and Asterisk Business Edition also see value in the Switchvox product because it saves them time in deploying these solutions. The AA300 is just another tool for them, in their arsenal to go out and deploy the Switchvox line of products as Digium resellers.”
