NEC Sphere, Perficient Partner to Develop Portlet Applications

NEC Sphere Communications, a provider of unified communication (UC) software and service oriented communications (SOC), announced a new partnership with information technology consulting firm, Perficient, to develop robust conferencing and “buddy list” portlet applications.

Portlet applications are designed to provide enterprise portal users easy access to NEC (News - Alert) Sphericall IP PBX software to add human communication within each tool. This vital human communication element eliminates the need to run separate desktop applications, thereby boost productivity and interaction among their various team members in the process.

NEC Sphere (News - Alert), part of The NEC Group, is reportedly the first company to deliver SOC. The company’s Sphericall IP PBX software is used by enterprise, education, government and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) organizations in more than 15 countries around the world.

Sphericall, according to NEC Sphere, is an open system, software-based and simplified approach to comprehensive unified communications, running on industry-standard servers across existing data networks. The technology is integrated with features such as voice, presence, softphone, desktop video conferencing, instant messaging, unified e-mail/voice mail and personal calling profiles. The software scales to 30,000 ports per system across multiple locations.

According to Todd Landry, senior vice president of NEC Sphere, the ability to create robust portlets is evidence of Perficient’s (News - Alert) deep knowledge as a leading systems integrator that creates business solutions that prove extremely valuable. “One reason NEC Sphere is tapping Perficient is this experienced integrator’s influence as we progressively add SOC functionality to enterprise applications,” he added.

For instance, Landry continued, once Perficient’s portlets are installed for Sphericall, a CRM user wanting to make a quick call can check presence on a certain work group or join a conference within the context of the portal without the added hassle of having to run a separate desktop application. This increases productivity by keeping users focused within the tool used to perform a job.

“We place a strong emphasis not only on delivering value in each of our solution engagements but also on building lasting relationships with clients and partners,” said Jeff Davis, president and COO of Perficient, in a statement. “We’re excited to continue to help NEC Sphere bring its vision to market and look forward to the building of a long-term partnership.”

NEC Sphere said the partnership announcement with Perficient is the first of several to come.
