Switzerland-based Open Source network backup and restore solutions provider, Bacula Systems SA, recently announced the launch of latest version of its ‘Bacula Enterprise Edition version 2.6’, which is an Open Source network backup and restore solution ideal for IT departments.
The Bacula Enterprise Edition is a low-cost, scalable Open Source solution for networked backup, data recovery and verification of computer data. It combines company’s Open Source backup and restore platform, Bacula, with administration and management tools into a single integrated, tested, and certified platform.
Customers, such as large IT departments, can now use Bacula Enterprise Edition 2.6 as a realistic alternative to proprietary applications. Its enhanced production support subscriptions include everything that is required to deploy and host Bacula Systems backup and restore technologies, said company.
According to Bacula, its Open Source backup solution and subscription puts customers back in control of their mission-critical IT infrastructure, thereby facilitating them to cut IT backup costs as well as avoid vendor lock-in.
Apart from featuring a modern, modular and multi-threaded design, Bacula Enterprise Edition 2.6 can backup to disk, tape, and robotic media libraries. It features backup to LT03 tape drives at 150 MB / sec speed.
The latest version of Bacula Enterprise Edition solution is provided with increased scalability up to thousands of servers and clients, thereby making it a stable network backup and data verification solution in large IT environments. The solution is facilitated with advanced levels of security built in every layer and features high availability in a clustered environment.
In addition, Bacula Systems is also expanding its partner network that will include Red Hat (News - Alert), Mandriva in France, and dass IT in Germany.
Along with the launch of its latest edition, the company also announced a new distributorship with SPI, in Italy.
Bacula Systems Enterprise Edition offers support for Unix, Solaris, AIX, Windows, Red Hat, Mandriva, OpenSUSE, SUSE Linux Enterprise, and Ubuntu (News - Alert). Additionally, it can be built from source on all Linux distributions as well as most Unix distributions. It is issued under the GPL Open source license and the subscription support for Bacula Enterprise Edition is immediately available from company or its resellers.
Bacula System is compatible with databases such as Oracle (News - Alert), Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres SQL and Ingres.
"The fact is that most enterprises are paying far more than they need to for their backup and restore applications", said Jack Griffin, CEO of Bacula Systems. "Bacula Enterprise Edition presents a more modern architecture at much lower cost. No enterprise should feel forced to continue using a proprietary backup solution, and I expect that many IT departments will now want to review their choice of backup technology."
