Rhomobile, specialist in building open source framework for business mobility solutions, has reportedly released Rhodes 1.2 with support for push on iPhone (News - Alert) and BlackBerry devices. This framework is designed to provide a new approach to mobile application development that offers a comprehensive solutions for today’s smartphone app developer.

Rhodes uses iPhone 3.0 SDK push APIs and the BlackBerry (News - Alert) Enterprise Server Push APIs for updates of important application information to users' smartphones. Developers can utilize their existing HTML skills to create applications for smartphones such as iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Android (News - Alert).

Officials at the company claim the Rhodes framework is based on a "write once and run on many" fundamental that significantly boosts developers’ efficiency since they can concentrate on creating and updating new Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) based apps for the iPhone 3G S without having to rewrite code for every OS update.

Rhodes framework allows the creation of native mobile apps using device capabilities such as GPS, PIM data, and camera. Its smartphone application framework claims to reduce development costs by up to five times by enabling developers to code native smartphone applications in HTML instead of in Objective-C or other complex native device operating system language.

“The Rhodes smartphone application development framework provides us with powerful tools to create robust, cross-platform native applications," said Dan Turchin, CEO of Aeroprise (News - Alert), a leading provider of Mobile Service Management applications and Rhomobile ISV.

He said that the addition of push data capabilities in Rhodes 1.2 allowed them to add alerting features to their application such as customized, real-time notifications when network outages occur.

The company says that the Rhodes framework is now available at flexible pricing options suitable for a range of Smartphone application efforts with dual license models - under GPLv3 for open source apps and commercial licensing options for enterprises and Independent Software Vendors.

To make development of applications with the Rhodes framework even easier, Rhomobile recently introduced RhoHub, a hosted development solution for mobile applications.
