Univa Releases UniCluster 5.0 for Better Infrastructure Management

Univa UD, a provider of cloud management software products, reportedly announced UniCluster 5.0, the latest version of its infrastructure and workload management software stack that functions as the core of Univa’s (News - Alert) cloud computing solutions.

 

UniCluster provides the framework for Univa’s cloud computing solutions, Univa officials said. Used as a building block for high performance computing clusters in internal or external computing environments, it is the open source component of Univa’s infrastructure management suite.

 

At the core of UniCluster are Sun Grid Engine software and Oracle (News - Alert) Enterprise Linux. With these, UniCluster acts as the leading solution for many top commercial companies who are migrating from expensive job schedulers in Aerospace, EDA, Oil and Gas and Life Sciences, said company sources.

 

The new UniCluster 5.0 includes a number of enhancements and added scalability. It now features a well-defined Web-based API to allow interfacing with the UniCluster core framework. The software can be scaled to more than 7,000 nodes through subordinate installer nodes.

 

UniCluster 5.0 offers true heterogeneous support, meaning a single cluster can support OpenSolaris and Linux compute nodes with a common management framework. Further, software profiles can be created and deployed for multiple operating systems and computing environments. The solution lets users create one kit for deployment across resources running a variety of OS’s and also across multiple hardware profiles.

In September, Univa UD announced the native OpenSolaris version of UniCluster functionally equivalent to the Linux, increasing the attractiveness of the OpenSolaris OS among technical computing users, TMCnet reported. It also offers cluster installation directly from repositories with configurable software profiles for cluster nodes. Installation and configuration is automatic, driven by Kits.
