A Framingham, Massachusetts-based telecom expenses management provider announced today it’s going to be acquired by a business support systems company headquartered in Israel.

Officials at AnchorPoint say that by being purchased by Mer Telemanagement Solutions Ltd., the combined company is poised to offer a full solution suite for voice, data and wireless through various delivery models including software license and managed service.

According to Roger Challen, president and chief executive officer of AnchorPoint (News - Alert), MTS delivers global telecom management experience plus a large North American customer base.

“This merger provides a foundation for expansion into the international space and provides access to established development and support teams with a solid knowledge in global billing platforms,” Challen said. “Additionally, we believe this transaction brings the combined company increased financial strength in this period of market consolidation.”

Details of the deal were not released.

solutions are emerging as a strong market in this slower overall economy, as businesses look to trim their IT budgets and leverage technology to help cut costs.

As TMCnet reported, there’s a growing interest among buyers using open source technologies to save money.

Specifically, enterprise IT buyers would most like to replace operating systems, application and Web servers, databases and development tools with open source technologies, according to a recent survey from OpenLogic, Inc. – a Broomfield, Colorado-based provider of open source software solutions.

MTS (News - Alert), whose U.S. headquarters are in Fairlawn, New Jersey, now provides telecom management services to customers in Europe, South America and Asia through OEM partnerships that include Siemens (News - Alert), Phillips and NEC.

According to MTS Chief Executive Officer Eytan Bar, his company has been evaluating new opportunities to expand upon its core business.

“Adding managed services to our portfolio is the logical next step and this transaction accelerates our go-to-market strategy,” Bar said. “AnchorPoint brings an established customer base, a portfolio of services and their market-recognized brand to the organization. We believe this merger enhances our best-of-breed approach to solutions for our customers.”
