3PAR Helps Online Service Save on Storage

3PAR reportedly says that its Utility Storage features the most powerful virtualized storage array, delivering resilient infrastructure agility at the lowest cost to meet rapidly changing business needs.

The product is now helping TheLadders.com, an online service catering exclusively to the $100,000-plus job market to save on storage.

3PAR provides utility storage, a category of highly virtualized, tightly clustered, and dynamically tiered storage arrays built for utility computing.

As part of a datacenter virtualization initiative TheLadders.com installed 3PAR Utility Storage and that move has helped the online job search website to bring the company’s storage capacity requirements down by 66% and lessened the storage administration time.

The 3PAR InServ Storage Server model leverages 3PAR’s customary architecture to deliver simple yet powerful and dynamically tiered storage arrays for open systems. The job search site has employed this server to remove the use of separate arrays for different applications and stop its reliance on costly consulting services.

Frey Kuo, director of Information Technology and Operations at TheLadders.com, said that 3PAR not only helped them financially but also offered them the ability to add storage at the drop of a hat and the platform’s superior reliability and high performance protects their critical end-user experience.

For each individual project initiated in TheLadders.com, the total lifetime storage had to be purchased up front because of the limitations in their legacy storage environment. It also reduced the number of projects that could be initiated in any given year due to cost constraints associated with purchasing all of this capacity at the outset. With 3PAR the job search site not only was able to overcome these limitations but they were able to buy additional storage on an incremental basis and only as needed. This resulted in saving of up-front capacity purchases, initiating more projects, and reducing the cost of housing, powering, and cooling their storage.

The Web site claims that storage configuration tasks that took days or weeks to complete with legacy storage took just hours with their new 3PAR array.

“TheLadders.com is one of many Internet and Web 2.0 companies that have come to us looking for cost savings and have stayed with us for our superior simplicity, efficiency, performance, and reliability,” said David Scott, president and chief executive officer for 3PAR. “Legacy vendors are plagued by inefficient, inflexible architectures and a rigid business model. Our customers understand that there is a far better alternative that is well suited for businesses seeking a leaner, more agile approach.”

3PAR recently celebrated a decade of innovation and Polish fixed-line telecommunications services provider Netia (News - Alert) SA had merged its storage infrastructure onto 3PAR utility storage in order to enhance its services to customers.
