BonitaSoft Kicks Off 'Process Challenge' to Promote Business Process Models Sharing

By Trupti Kamath, TMCnet Contributor

BonitaSoft, a provider of Open Source (News - Alert) Business Process Management solutions, announced it has launched a competition to promote the sharing of business process models in its user community. The author of the winning “Process Challenge” process, to be chosen from among the most complete and re-usable business process models posted on the Bonita community website, will be awarded an Apple (News - Alert) iPad.

“Sharing is the basis of all open source projects such as Bonita. Today our members share many modules useful for developing a variety of business applications with Bonita Open Solution, but they may not be aware that the actual processes they develop may also be of interest to others,” said Rodrigue Le Gall, co-founder of BonitaSoft (News - Alert) and leader of the Bonita community. “Many business processes are similar from one organization to another.”

With more than1,500 members, the Bonita Open Source community has experienced tremendous growth since January 2010, adding more than 1,000 new users representing nearly 150 nationalities. Anyone is welcome to participate and is invited to join the community site. Once a member, any participant may then post processes developed in Bonita Open Solution which is available free for download and can vote for those proposed by other community members.

“This is also an excellent opportunity for participants to highlight their mastery of BPM tools in general and Bonita Open Solution in particular, be recognized within the community, and raise their professional visibility,” Le Gall added.

Some examples of business processes include: purchasing management for a small business; orders and billing for online sales; management of a music festival, etc. Processes small and large, specific or general, all are welcome. The “Process Challenge” is intended to encourage members of the community who face similar issues to share both their business process models and business applications generated by Bonita Open Solution.

This contest is open to computer science professionals, students, retirees; consultants as well as business professionals as well. The results will be announced on October 8, 2010. While the first place winner will get an iPad, the second place winner will get Motorola (News - Alert) Cliq Android phone, and the third place winner a selection of books about Business Process Management.

BonitaSoft completed its first round of funding of $3 million from Ventech and Auriga Partners last year. The company is said to be the first provider of open source software for business process management, a market which currently represents $2.6 billion with an estimated growth of 30 percent per annum by 2012.
