Trouble times 3: Shivers triplets from Saginaw are all in jail
Dec 13, 2012 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Two Saginaw triplets will join their brother behind bars after a jury convicted them of unarmed robbery and conspiracy, police said Thursday.
On Monday, a Saginaw County jury convicted Deshawn and Juronn Shivers, 21, of unarmed robbery and conspiracy to commit unarmed robbery for stealing money from a man in 2010 at a Buena Vista Township strip mall parking lot, said Detective Sgt. Sean Waterman. He said the victim was the stepfather of Juronn Shivers' girlfriend.
The third triplet, Devon, is already in prison for home invasion, assault with intent to murder and weapons charges, said Michigan Department of Corrections records and Saginaw Police Sgt. Terry Carpenter II. His earliest release date is 2042.
Carpenter said the Shivers brothers and other members of their family have been affiliated with the Sunny Side or South Side street gang in Saginaw.
"Unfortunately, it's been kind of a family business to some degree with crime," Carpenter said. "That's not good. We don't want that. We hoped they (would be) in college and doing better things."
Carpenter said the triplets' 30-year-old brother, Sanford Shivers, also served time and was released from prison in August.
Attorneys for Deshawn and Juronn Shivers could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday evening.
Saginaw County Circuit Judge Robert Kaczmarek will sentence the brothers Jan. 22. They face up to 15 years in prison.
