Online Video Portals Get Bad Grades from Parents Council

The Parents Television Council has issued some bad grades for four online video portals including AT&T’s U-verse, Comcast’s (News - Alert) Fancast, AOL’s Slashcontrol, and Hulu. According to the council, those groups are doing a very poor job of filtering out explicit material for children.

The council monitors sites that “are failing to protect kids on the Web,” according to the president of the group, Tim Winter. The group gave the online video portals no higher than a “D” ranking for not properly filtering “inappropriate” content.

Viewing home pages and over 600 videos over three weeks, the council decided that the online standards are far more lenient than on cable broadcasted TV. The content ratings were not specific enough, and youngsters have access to content deemed “unsuitable.”
