Just one day after AT&T (News - Alert) and other carriers started offering smartphones running Microsoft’s new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7, AT&T issued the mobile version of its U-verse Internet TV service.
Initially, the service is available for the HTC (News - Alert) Surround, Samsung Focus, and LG Quantum, but more phones are soon to come. The app is available for download from AT&T with a cool deal that enables customers to watch TV for free for 30 days. That benefit should engage quite a few newcomers to the app.
The app contains a large library of downloadable shows that users can watch over a Wi-Fi connection. U-verse Mobile also comes with the ability to schedule and manage DVR recordings on the smartphone.
AT&T has been a long-time supporter of Microsoft’s (News - Alert) previous mobile platforms, and now says it plans to be a major carrier of Windows Phone smartphones.
Three packages, U100, U200, and U200 Latino will be available for free until February 1, 2011. After the free trial period, U-verse TV will be available for just $9.99 a month. Not bad considering the advantages of this service. Users who subscribe to U300 or higher get the mobile app free of charge.
U-verse is available for iPhone (News - Alert) customers with AT&T as well.
