Socialcam, a Video-Sharing App, Now Available from Justin.tv

Socialcam, a video-sharing application from Justin.tv, is now available on the iPhone and Android (News - Alert) via the App Store and Android Market.

With Socialcam, Justin.tv is concentrating on the social aspect of mobile video and it is designed to be simple to upload, according to Mashable.

Among its features are: a feed with videos from friends, a feed for your own videos, the camera, a tab, followers and suggested followers, and settings.

Mashable says users turn on the camera, record, add a title, tag (News - Alert) friends in the video, and share via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail or SMS. Users can also indicate if they "like" videos and offer their comments.

According to a report from Mashable, Justin.tv released in September an app for Android and iPhone (News - Alert) that lets users stream live video recorded on their smartphones directly to the Justin.tv website. Based on that experience, Matthew DiPietro, vice president of marketing and communications at Justin.tv, told Mashable that over 90 percent of the views came after the videos were posted.

In addition, DiPietro told Mashable he hopes the new tagging feature will allow for “a level of shareability that will wow everybody. It's super sticky and viral. Facebook (News - Alert) is so sticky because when you sign up, there's already pictures of you on there that you haven't seen. There's content that you want that you didn't know was there." He hopes that same will occur for Socialcam.

In a related matter, TMCnet reports that with the Dyyno Universal Broadcaster (dUb) millions of Justin.tv users can stream in HD quality video content. Dyyno Hybrid P2P distribution offers content owners and distributors the ability to monetize their content via ads and subscriptions, TMCnet adds.

In addition, Justin.tv reports on its blog that there has been a Beta release of a new player for highlights and archives. Some improvements from the previous player include:

·         Controls work in full-screen mode.

·         Users can pop out the player.

·         Seek bar is wider, making it easier to find a video.

Broadcasters can reach over 30 million users of the Justin.tv portal, giving them an instant audience and mass promotion, TMCnet said.

Users are watching over 300 million videos every month on Justin.tv, according to TMCnet. Using just a laptop, users can share an event, class, party, and thoughts to anyone in over 250 countries while they chat in real-time with viewers, according to information posted on the Justin.tv website.
