ANADIGICS, Inc., a provider of semiconductor solutions for broadband wireless and wireline communications markets, has launched AWL9555, a new 5 GHz wireless local area network, or “WLAN,” power amplifier, or “PA.” The AWL9555 will increase both range and data throughput for demanding, high data rate applications.

The ANADIGICS AWL9555 high performance InGaP HBT Power Amplifier is designed for transmit applications in the 4.90 GHz to 5.85 GHz Band. It is manufactured using advanced InGaP HBT technology that offers state-of-the-art performance, reliability, temperature stability and ruggedness.

What’s more, the AWL9555 is ideal for applications such as the wireless transmission of HD video between residential gateway devices and televisions, routers offering 802.11a/n WiFi (News - Alert) connectivity, and portable devices like notebook PCs, netbooks and handsets that offer dual-band WLAN connectivity.

A highly integrated, RF-matched device, the AWL9555 reduces overall component count. The low profile 3.0 x 3.0 x 0.55 mm package of AWL9555 makes it ideal for size-constrained mobile applications such as handsets.

In addition, the AWL9555 enables Original Equipment Manufacturers, or “OEMs,” to take advantage of the broad bandwidth available in the 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum around the world. The AWL9555 also provides high linearity and high output power over the full 5 GHz band. This enables OEMs to deliver high-quality video and high speed data wirelessly over a greater distance.

According to Glenn Eswein, director of product marketing for ANADIGICS, the trend is turning toward high data rate connectivity throughout the home for high performance video gaming, access to high-definition video and high speed Internet access in the yard.

An emerging application, Wireless Home Digital Interface, or “WHDI,” has strong support from OEMs like Samsung, LGE, Hitachi and Sharp (News - Alert). With the proliferation of WHDI, manufacturers of cable boxes and home gateway devices can use the AWL9555 power amplifier to provide the range and signal quality needed to deliver wireless HD video to televisions throughout the home which in turn enables consumers to enjoy crystal-clear streaming video without the need for cables.

ANADIGICS’ high frequency radio frequency integrated circuit solutions enable manufacturers of communications equipment to enhance overall system performance by reducing the size and weight of their products, increasing power efficiency, improving reliability as well as reducing manufacturing cost and time to market.
