TMCnet Business Process Outsourcing Week in Review

By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Web Editor

The business process outsourcing industry has had a lot of buzz in headlines recently! Here are the top stories from this week.

To kick off the week, technology giant IBM (News - Alert) announced it signed a 10-year business process outsourcing contract with CEMEX, a building materials company. The deal is valued at more than $1 billion. The agreement covers delivery of business process outsourcing and IT services including finance and accounting, human resource back-office services, IT infrastructure, and application development and maintenance services. IBM also provides R&D expertise and business consulting services to help CEMEX detect and drive sustainable improvements in profitability.

There is a trend emerging throughout the global marketplace as business process outsourcing is dwindling. Fewer contracts are being created and negotiated and those heavily invested in this area may want to re-think their strategy. The European debt crisis might be playing a small part as European countries have put any and all discretionary IT spending on hold, according to a PC Advisor report. The showdown in Congress right now isn’t helping and buyers in the public sector are really shying away from any business decision involving outsourcing for the fear of being fined by the United States government if they do so.

The Questetra BPM Suite SaaS (News - Alert) Edition has been updated after one year to the new version 9.0. With new features, the cloud based BPM service is better designed to handle data. One of the updates on the BPM service includes the ability to process PDF files containing business data, which can include decision making, complaints support, and expense applications. The previous version could not easily complete this task.

Also this week, EPM Live, a work management platform, has been placed by Inc. Magazine in its annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The platform is the first build-to-order platform that extends project portfolio management (PPM (News - Alert)) to all areas of the business regardless of work focus.

"EPM Live is very proud to be recognized for the sixth consecutive year on the Inc. 500|5000 fastest growing companies list," said Joe Larscheid, EPM Live CEO, in a statement. "We will continue our efforts to create industry leading, innovative technology to revolutionize the way organizations manage projects and work."

The 2012 Global Outsourcing 100 list, which provides a benchmark for overall outsourcing excellence across industries, positioned Amdocs in twelfth place. It has figured among the world’s 100 top outsourcing providers by the IAOP for the past six years. In addition to this recognition, Amdocs (News - Alert) stated that it figured among the top 10 providers supporting the entertainment and media industry for the second consecutive year, earned a spot among the top 20 in the U.S. and Europe and was placed in the top 10 outsourcing service providers in Southeast Asia.

Stay tuned to the business process outsourcing community each week for updates in the industry and the latest in breaking news.
