camunda, a provider of advanced software solutions, has introduced an Open Source (News - Alert) platform for business process automation named camunda BPM. The company is a partner of Signavio, a cloud provider in the BPM arena from Berlin, and has been dividing the source code of Activiti project to add a number of extra components that enable business / IT alignment features.

With the new development, the company has transformed most of its proprietary product, named ‘camunda fox,’ into Open Source mode, which will help it play a bigger role in dictating business direction in the future.

Any organization thinking of adopting a Java-based execution platform will be more interested in the project after these latest contributions.

The decision by camunda to launch a new project will offer substantial gains to Signavio users. Within the Open Source code base of the company, the Signavio connector allows streamlined business-IT-roundtrip communication to be established between process implementation and business-oriented modeling. All customers of Signavio can now leverage the benefits of the camunda BPM package and seamlessly integrate it with their process modeling workspace, whether they’ve been deploying an on-premises installation or a cloud-based service.

Last month, Signavio Process Editor 6.0 achieved SAP (News - Alert)-certified integration with the SAP NetWeaver Cloud. Signavio developed this solution by taking advantage of the resources and tools available as a participant in the recently launched SAP NetWeaver Cloud Applications Partner program.
