camunda Divides Activiti to Launch Open Source Platform for BPM

By Arvind Arora, TMCnet Contributor

The Business Process Management (BPM) arena is one of the most important aspects of business today, which needs consistent development and advancement to cope with the ever increasing market pressures to grow and expand.

camunda, a provider of advanced software solutions, has introduced an Open Source (News - Alert) platform for business process automation named camunda BPM. The deploying defines an approach that needs a considerably reduced amount of code so that the BPM engine can be connected to Java development environments in a smooth manner. The company is a partner of Signavio, a cloud provider in the BPM arena from Berlin, and has been dividing the source code of Activiti project to add a number of extra components that enable business / IT alignment features.

Offering a significant addition to the Activiti project since its initiation, camunda leverages its experience implementing BPM platforms for a large number of customers, in enhancing the overall value of the project. With the new development, the company has transformed most of its proprietary product, named ‘camunda fox,’ into Open Source mode, which will help it play a bigger role in dictating business direction in the future.

Any organization thinking of adopting a Java-based execution platform will be more interested in the project after these latest contributions.

The decision by camunda to launch a new project will offer substantial gains to Signavio users. Within the Open Source code base of the company, the Signavio connector allows streamlined business-IT-roundtrip communication to be established between process implementation and business-oriented modeling. All customers of Signavio can now leverage the benefits of the camunda BPM package and seamlessly integrate it with their process modeling workspace, whether they’ve been deploying an on-premises installation or a cloud-based service.

“The introduction of camunda BPM is an important milestone for us. Signavio is our favorite process modeling tool and the best technology for a BPMN 2.0-based business-IT-roundtrip,” commented Jakob Freund, chief executive officer at camunda. “That is why we published the Signavio connector as part of camunda BPM.”

“camunda is one of the most important partners of Signavio and camunda BPM provides an excellent Open Source framework for automating business processes,” said Gero Decker , co-chief executive officer at Signavio. “It should be the first choice for any business who wants to deploy a Java-based execution platform for BPM.”

Last month, Signavio Process Editor 6.0 achieved SAP (News - Alert)-certified integration with the SAP NetWeaver Cloud. Signavio developed this solution by taking advantage of the resources and tools available as a participant in the recently launched SAP NetWeaver Cloud Applications Partner program.
