This week, the Business Process Outsourcing community kicked off the first days of May with a flurry of news. Let's examine some of the new products and initiatives that bloomed in BPO this week.
NEC Corporation of America and Desktone, Inc., have partnered to offer cloud-hosted virtual desktops to a variety of organizations. NEC (News - Alert) is adding the Desktone Platform, a Windows-based virtual desktop solution, to its private application cloud. The product will enable NEC to install Windows desktops for end users directly from the cloud, helping companies to cut down on their onsite infrastructure costs.
To simplify application development for IBM (News - Alert) BPM, CEDRUS has developed the DreamFace solution to allow organizations to create user interfaces for both browsers and mobile devices. The fully featured development environment also includes a host of enterprise patterns, such as enterprise data access, caching, error handling and end-to-end security.
Also this week, Stream Global Services launched Stream Enterprise. The shared services solution will allow businesses to offer multi-channel call center solutions without adding dedicated agent seats. In addition to outsourcing customer interaction tasks, companies can take advantage of Stream's lead generation and sales capabilities.
According to the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), the BPO industry in the islands is growing an astonishing 20 percent per year. Legazpi City alone hosts 15,000 call center seats. To meet the growing demand for BPO personnel in the face of a talent shortage, Legazpi City major Geraldine Rosal is focusing recruiting efforts on universities like Bicol University and Aquinas University of Legazpi. The shortage is particularly dire in the financial services and accounting sectors.
Finally, a report from Canon Business Processes Services found that only 15 percent of executives had conducted a risk assessment for its recordkeeping processes. In particular, the report recommended assessing retention times, which could cut non-compliance fines and improve litigation preparedness.
