Mobile solutions are being implemented to improve just about every type of business, and the food distribution business is no exception. Following the lead of companies such as Kuna Foodservice, which began using the DeliveryTracker solution from Cadec Global to track its food deliveries, global food distributor Cheney Brothers recently deployed a solution to improve its delivery process. This solution came in the form of Amtel’s (News - Alert) mobile device management (MDM).
Amtel MDM utilizes the iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices carried by Cheney Brothers employees in order to provide the company with essential data about the location of its sales staff. This data can then be analyzed in order to improve delivery routes or figure out other changes that would make deliveries more timely and efficient.
Daniel Midgett, IT support specialist at Cheney Brothers, stated, “Having accurate location reporting helped us to see the last known location, location history and daily reporting for all devices. The ability to setup and use over 40+ geo-fence restrictions for different users based on group or profile worked like a charm.”
This geo-fencing capability gives Cheney Brothers the power to automatically take a variety of actions when members of its sales force or logistical team enter and leave certain areas. Perhaps most relevant to Cheney Brothers as a food distributor is the option to alert administrators when a device enters a certain area. This way, the location of the company’s fleet can be automatically monitored, letting administrators know when deliveries have been made. However, Amtel MDM’s geo-fencing feature also includes many other features such as automatically disabling certain apps while within a restricted area.
Cheney Brothers has so far found Amtel MDM simple to deploy and maintain, and is also simplifying its e-mail setup and new customer registration using other Amtel solutions.
