Axiros, a major player in advanced service and device management, was recently selected by Vodafone Iceland to monitor and manage its customer premise equipment (CPE). Vodafone (News - Alert) Iceland, the second largest mobile operator and largest wireline operator in Iceland with xDSL and FTTx networks, said it selected Axiros based partly on the company's experience with TR-069 and legacy equipment.
To handle the management of these technologies, Vodafone is deploying three separate Axiros products, namely AXESS.ACS (News - Alert), which manages home devices and triple play services; AXTRACT, for continuous monitoring of QoE (quality of experience); and AXPLORE for alarm management.
Furthermore, Axiros' turnkey solution includes its Customer Care application and integration with OSS/BSS systems. This will enable Vodafone Iceland (News - Alert) to enhance its customer experience via reduced support wait times.
As usual, Vodafone Iceland sifted through a number of solutions providers before choosing Axiros. According to Vodafone Iceland's head of business support systems, Fannar Orn Porbjornsson, "Axiros provides significant ROI. Even more than that, their open architecture means we can move forward with the equipment we already have in place. This will save us significant time and money."
Earlier in the year, Axiros released the AXESS.ACS TR-069 device management solution as a hosted service. Dubbed AXESS.ACS as a Service, this offering provides the same level of functionality as the original but in a cloud-based format meant to be more suitable for small to medium-sized Internet service providers.
This release made a lot of sense because, the popularity of cloud computing aside, Axiros' products are built on an open platform that allows them to work with any device, no matter the protocol. Meanwhile, this single framework design offers almost linear scalability while securing very short implementation periods.
Case in point, Axiros will be able to deploy its complete solution within Vodafone Iceland's desired window of six months.
