On the heels of launching a program for developers to enable their applications with voice and communications features, IntelePeer (News - Alert), a provider of communications-as-a-service platforms, has appointed a new executive to head up its cloud communications business segment. The company has named Margaret Norton as the general manager of the AppworX business unit.

According to company officials, Norton will focus on building a so-called “dedicated channel development organization” to leverage the AppworX Open Communications Platform across new markets.

“AppworX plays a key role in helping our customers integrate applications which span the telecom and Web worlds by providing application components for specific services and integration. This results in greater value for their communications services,” Norton said. “The voice-enhanced application or service created with the AppworX platform drives recurring revenues for IntelePeer, thereby dramatically increasing our overall value. Because this is a cloud-computing service, customers can improve their time to market with their AppworX-enabled applications with little to no up-front costs or risks. We provide on-demand, carrier grade service with easy tools and components to build enhanced voice-enabled applications.”

According to Norton, businesses are striving to reduce their overall cost structure and focus on their core competencies. “Additionally in this increasingly competitive market, businesses are seeking ways to improve their time to market and turn up new services and applications with a minimum of risk and investment. Cloud-based services offer businesses cost-effective, readily available on-demand infrastructure and services,” she added. “The carrier-class IntelePeer global peering network, SuperRegistry and AppworX platform deliver those cloud-based advantages.”

Before joining IntelePeer, Norton served as the president and CEO of Mobilitec, a software and services company offering an integrated platform to provide content service delivery for mobile operators worldwide. She has also served as the general manager and senior vice president of Octel Communications. Additionally, she has held positions as a chief marketing officer and executive roles in product management, business development and sales.

Frank Fawzi, chairman and CEO of IntelePeer, said in a statement: “Margaret has earned a reputation for strong leadership during periods of dynamic growth and change, qualities that make her the right choice to lead the AppworX business unit. With the addition of Margaret, we have all of the key elements in place to elevate our growth to an exciting new level.”
