As cloud computing continues to increase in adoption, more companies are turning to Communications as a Service (CaaS) to improve their communications strategies and lower costs and achieve greater efficiencies. TMCnet was there to cover the latest CaaS news this week. Here are some highlights.

While marketing automation was once a tool of only the largest companies, increasingly, small to medium-sized businesses (SMB) are seeing the benefits of this technology. In fact, marketing automation is one of the top 10 most relevant technology areas of investment for an SMB, and 36 percent of SMBs in the U.S. are planning to use a marketing automation solution.

“It's not simply a “me-too” kind of spending for smaller companies. It's a matter of staying competitive,” writes Techaisle's Davis Blair in a blog this week. Much of it is thanks to the availability of cloud-based services and marketing automation, in which smaller companies are using in large numbers to control costs and stay competitive.

Although small businesses differ slightly from mid-market businesses in their primary business objectives for using marketing automation, the top three common objectives are: identifying new customers, generating additional revenue from current customers and better managing demand generation activities, noted Techaisle when it released the results of its survey in late July. In other CaaS news this week, Amdocs (News - Alert) was named the leading independent software testing vendor in the global communication service provider (CSP (News - Alert)) market by an independent market analysis company. A provider of customer experience systems and services, Amdocs was shown to have the greatest share of the $1.7 billion telecom software testing market, TMCnet reported.

The company reported around $3.2 billion in total revenue in 2011. Amdocs aims to simplify the customer experience by harnessing the data explosion and staying ahead of competitors by providing new services and improving operational efficiencies.

Capping off the week in CaaS news, 911 Enable (News - Alert) released its portfolio of E911 offerings especially for Unified Communications-as-a-Service, or UCaaS, providers. The precise difficulties of UCaaS providers, namely compliance with state and federal E911 regulations and offering E911 support for several voice platforms, can now be resolved with the best-in-class all-inclusive E911 offerings from 911 Enable.

The latest E911 offerings will also assist UCaaS providers in offering E911 functionality to its customers similar to that received from an on-premise offering. To read more about it, click here.
