New cloud-based capabilities introduced in BT’s (News - Alert) portfolio of supply chain solutions BT Trace are improving customers’ operational efficiency and helping organizations address the problems associated with managing increasingly complex global supply chains.

BT Trace now provides a single, accurate view into complex supply chains in near real time. This capability helps businesses to see how and where changes need to be made and also enable customers to improve operational efficiency.

“The cloud-based capabilities announced today for BT Trace provide global companies with end-to-end visibility of their supply chains and expedite the process of transforming enterprise resource planning data into real-time, actionable business intelligence,” said Melanie Posey, research vice president at IDC (News - Alert).

Supply chain visibility is a challenge for companies with a global supply chain as they have to handle multiple issues, and they require an accurate understanding of all inventory and on-shelf availability.

These companies also find it difficult to comply with regulations and operate a sustainable business. All these issues are addressed by BT Trace which collects, stores, shares and interprets high volume event data about goods and assets moving along an extended global supply chain in a cost effective and secure manner.

BT Trace provides a single view of the whole supply chain through a customized web portal by integrating the complex information from the various resource planning and IT systems used by global companies and by their suppliers.

TNT Express, one of the world’s largest express delivery companies, has already trialed and tested the new service.

“Billions of dollars are attributed to the cost of an organisations’ global supply chain, with boardroom focus firmly on reducing cost and driving up operational efficiency,” added Luis Alvarez, CEO for BT Global Services (News - Alert).
