CaaS Week in Review

The CaaS community saw acquisitions, new partnerships, new deployments and service improvements. Let's review what happened in the CaaS world this past week.
Blue Jeans announced this week that it has completed the Internet2 NET (News - Alert)+ validation process, which will allow it to extend its cloud-based video collaboration platform to 250 universities around the U.S. Internet2 NET+ is an extension of the Internet2 project, which was designed to meet the connection needs of researchers and educators everywhere.
The Internet2 NET+ initiative creates a portfolio of validated cloud and security solutions that can be confidently deployed by higher education and research institutions. By aggregating the demand of many research community members, Internet2 NET+ negotiates good pricing and terms for its member institutions.
Also this week, DocbookMD announced a partnership with contact center provider MAP Communications that allows doctors to receive secure answering service messages on their mobile devices. In addition to providing added messaging security, the partnership will enable physicians to call patients back directly from their own mobile phones. In addition, they can forward messages to their colleagues quickly and can maintain a digital record of all of the calls that they handle.
Another news story from CaaS this past week involved NextLevel Internet, which has expanded its NextCloud managed private cloud network to the consumer space. The company originally developed the network to provide always-on cloud telephony service for first responders and other emergency workers for whom lack of a telephone connection could lead to loss of life. SMBs that use NextCloud are guaranteed 100 percent uptime along with clear voice communications, reliability and redundancy.
Finally, Knowlarity Communications, an India-based business communications provider, snapped up Unicom Techlabs for an undisclosed amount. Unicom had just released its Cloud Line cloud telephony solution, but its owners decided that increasing market competition made it impossible to be profitable. Knowlarity has expanded services into over 65 countries, and it has publicly stated that it would like to continue acquiring new companies that are relevant to its business telephony mission.
