TMC, a global, integrated media company, has named Alteva (News - Alert) as a recipient of a 2014 Internet Telephony Product of the Year Award.

"Alteva's hosted UCaaS Solution is transformative, offering businesses and their employees true Unified Communications (News - Alert) with tightly integrated productivity applications and mobility solutions across all major operating systems," said Bill Birnie, CMO, Alteva, in a statement.

"In this BYOD business environment, it's important that we enable companies and their employees to communicate however and wherever they want," said Birnie.

"It gives me great pleasure to recognize Alteva with a 2014 Product of the Year Award for its commitment to excellence and innovation," said Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), CEO, TMC.

Tehrani said that in the opinion of the distinguished judges, Alteva's UCaaS Solution has proven to be among the best communications and technology solutions on the market in 2014.

“I look forward to continued innovation from Alteva,” he said.

Earlier in August, Alteva, Inc., a provider of hosted Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS), had announced that independent managing general agent and insurance wholesaler, Jimcor Agency, Inc., has chosen Alteva's UCaaS solution suite to serve as critical components of their disaster recovery and business continuity (DR/BC)

According to a release, Alteva's UCaaS platform and VoIP phone system were first put to the test by Jimcor on October 29, 2012, when Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast. During the disaster, Alteva's hosted VoIP phone system allowed Jimcor calls to be redirected to unaffected locations, cell phones and home phones.

This capability permitted workers that were forced to operate from alternate locations to place and receive calls via the VoIP system. This, in turn, enabled inbound and outbound calls across Alteva's platform in a seamless manner regardless of location and device to maintain a 'business as usual' environment.
