Today, businesses of all sizes and across many industries are using cloud computing to streamline their operations and boost productivity. For SMBs, the cloud is a great way to have access to a more complicated IT infrastructures at a fraction of the cost. For larger companies, it is a way to provide access to companies’ resources to a diverse workforce distributed worldwide.

Employees, in fact, are able to access cloud resources and applications when they want or need it, anywhere, anytime. Info become available outside of an enterprise’s physical perimeter, and only an Internet connection is required to tap into them.

Another motivating factor for adopting cloud technology is the need to enhance communication, engage in collaboration and run processes more easily and effectively. Transitioning to the cloud even provides flexibility and is changing the way businesses operate and employees work at home, at the office, or on the go.

In essence, the move to the cloud is meeting business demands: to have increase scalability, flexibility and agility while saving on the company IT costs. It seems cloud adoption will continue to rise this year and onward, but there is one major concern: security. It is still the number one reason IT gave not to make the move, saying the challenge of keeping stored data in a cloud secure and private is of upmost concern.

Finding a reputable cloud provider is important to avoid security problems. One company in particular that works with enterprises and IT service providers to provide cloud security and management solutions is CloudLink Technologies (formally called AFORE Solutions (News - Alert)). This company has a unique and innovative approach that “allows customers to Bring-Their-Own-Security to AWS while leveraging the company's existing data security technology and operational expertise," says Alex Berlin, CEO of CloudLink.

Managers who would like to deploy enterprise workloads in the cloud can use, for example,  CloudLink, with the BitLocker technology (a proven and high-performance volume encryption solution) to secure AWS workloads. Yesterday, the company announced CloudLink SecureVM with Microsoft (News - Alert) BitLocker encryption for Amazon AWS. This gives an organization the ability to secure their virtual desktop and server virtual machines (VMs) with native Windows encryption tools, explains Cloudlink Technologies Inc. CloudLink SecureVM product can help protect against unauthorized changes to a system and safeguard an organization’s distributed data assets.

The company states that SecureVM extends BitLocker (Windows' built-in encryption tool) to virtual and cloud environments by emulating Trusted Platform Modules (TPM) functionality in software, giving organizations automated encryption of boot volumes in the cloud and centralized management to control security policy and encryption keys. Apart from allowing control access to AWS services and resources, as mentioned on the CloudLink website, SecureVM’s proven encryption key policy management functionality allows BitLocker to encrypt the organizations’ virtual machines independently of AWS.

In addition to being suited for Windows, SecureVM also supports Linux native encryption deployed throughout their hybrid clouds. With Cloud security being a top priority for many enterprises, a single encryption management solution for multiple clouds and VM operating systems may be the perfect solution.
