Facebook’s (News - Alert) messaging platform is now offering video calling.

Facebook has worked its way into its own communication realm with its update of the Facebook application last August - forcing users to download a separate application on their mobile devices if they wanted to continue using Facebook for free messaging. Facebook felt that creating a separate platform for Messenger making it more user-friendly. Messenger now has over 600 million users per month.

Now, Facebook has added an additional feature the Messenger app- video calling. With the new video calling feature you can easily create a face-to-face conversation with anyone you are friends with on Facebook. The social network originally offered people video calling in partnership with Skype (News - Alert) back in 2011, but has now moved into its own video infrastructure.

In the top right corner of the app there is a video camera that users can click within a message to start a new video call. The video starts in ‘selfie’ mode, putting you in direct visual contact with friends and family.  Facebook already offered users voice calling, but video calling will expand Messenger’s real-time communication features. Messenger video calling connects people on iOS or Android (News - Alert) devices.

Video calling is the most recent feature added to Messenger. It follows group chats, stickers, voice calling, and sending money to friends. In addition, Facebook has promised the introduction of Business on Messenger soon.

Also, outside of messenger, the social network has released the app Hello on Android. Hello shows users who is calling if their number is registered on Facebook. Facebook has also recently launched messenger.com, a website completely dedicated to its Messenger features.

Video calling is available on Android and iOS in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, the U.K., the U.S. and Uruguay. It will slowly become available in other countries in the coming week
