Motorola Solutions and Skyscape to Provide Smart Public Safety Solutions

The Internet of Things (IoT) is connecting more and more devices every day. While estimates do vary, everyone from Cisco (News - Alert) to IDC estimate there will be anywhere from 20 to 50 billion connected devices by 2020. This will make everything that is connected much smarter, and it presents great opportunities for public and private entities for increased efficiency, monetization, safety and more. A partnership between Motorola Solutions and Skyscape Cloud Services looks to address one of these points with public safety solutions for UK government agencies by using cloud-based communications-as-a-service (CaaS) solutions.

The goal of this initiative is to find a more cost effective delivery of smart public safety solutions to UK government agencies using the cloud to accelerate the process. According to Motorola (News - Alert), they want to provide a solution with low to no capital expenditure so it can be deployed everywhere, including smaller agencies throughout the government.

By using the cloud,  economies of scale can be achieved because a network of remote servers are used to store, manage and process data using shared resources. Public safety agencies in the UK will have improved capacities by sharing information through cloud-delivered software as a service (SaaS (News - Alert)) model. Whether it is finding a missing person, issuing an alert or looking for a dangerous fugitive, having a single platform in which any piece of information can be added and viewed by everyone is extremely valuable.

The G-Cloud Framework has been designed to remove the complexities of buying and using ICT services by the UK public sector. Skyscape Cloud Services has been a supplier through the Framework since its launch in 2012. It has been deploying solutions to government entities in hours instead of months.

By partnering with Skyscape, Motorola Solutions ensures the services it offers will be delivered quickly at a much lower cost without sacrificing quality.
