BRIEF: More than 100 vehicles stopped during construction zone speed enforcement

Dec 19, 2012 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Tulsa Police Department Mingo Valley Traffic and TPD Motorcycle units stopped and cited more than 100 motorists during speed enforcement in construction zones.

According to a news release, units stopped vehicles Dec. 10-14 on both U.S. 169 and on city surface streets.

Officer Leland Ashley said that driving above the speed limit in a construction zone can result in a $150 to $200 fine for going up to 20 mph over the speed limit.

If a motorist is driving in excess of 20 mph above the speed limit, the driver would need to go to court to have a judge set the penalty, Ashley said.

Police ask motorists to remain alert, not use electronic communication devices, heed all warning signs and pay attention to posted speed limits in construction zones.

Fines for speeding in a construction zone: 1-10 mph above speed limit: $150 fine 11-15: $175 fine 16-20: $200 fine Above 20: Court appearance to determine penalty ___ (c)2012 Tulsa World (Tulsa, Okla.) Visit Tulsa World (Tulsa, Okla.) at www.tulsaworld.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
