Fremont Micro Devices Announces AC/DC Power Supply Controllers for Battery Chargers

Fremont Micro Devices USA Inc. today announced the FT83X Family of high performance AC/DC power supply controllers for off line, low power applications including battery charges and adaptors for cell phones, cordless phones, PDA’s, MP-3, Set Top Boxes and auxiliary power supplies.
“These primary side controllers simplify power supply design that requires constant current and constant voltage regulation capabilities. They control the output voltage and current precisely with the information in the primary side of the power supply, not only removing the output current sensing loss, but eliminating all secondary feedback circuitry.” Said Jim Panfil, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Fremont Micro Devices USA. “Each of the four devices in the Family has been optimized to enable specific applications.” He added.
The AC/DC Primary Side Regulators enable Switching Mode Power Supply Battery Charger application with specific features:
FT830D- USB Battery chargers
FT831D- Chargers with adjustable cable compensation and current monitor functionality
FT832DB- Charger with Charge status indicator
The FT83X Family of Integrated Circuits operate as a primary side sensing regulator and consequently designs using this Family of IC’s do not require an opto coupler or TL431 Shunt regulator reducing board space and system cost. All Family members provide rich protection features including Over Temperature Protection (OTP), Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Under Voltage Lockout (UVLO), Leading Edge Banking (LEB) and Built in Line Compensation which enable a high efficiency low cost solution for AC/DC power applications.
The FT83X Family adds to the growing portfolio of Fremont Micro Devices AC/DC Power Management solutions. These Primary Side Regulator devices enable high volume low power switching mode power supply applications.
