Startup Streak Raises $1.9M in Funding for CRM for Gmail Solution

Technology startup Streak has raised $1.9 million for its CRM service that uses a Google (News - Alert) Chrome extension to share e-mail and track deals through a user’s GMail inbox. Investors in the funding round include Battery Ventures, Chris Sacca of Lowercase Capital, Redpoint, Floodgate, Crunchfund, and a host of VC partners and angel investors such as David Tisch and Michael Birch – founders of social networking website Bebo.

Streak’s founders say they plan to use the capital to hire more employees and to expand their mobile presence.

Streak, which launched in March of this year, is also introducing an API to programmatically pull data from Streak for access in such apps as MailChimps and Wufoo. The company says this will allow users to create and edit boxes (useful for setting up Web forms that submit straight to Streak); create and edit pipelines; set up automated reminders; search through Streak data and get a newsfeed for updates to a customer’s boxes and pipelines, according to Tech Crunch.

The company’s services are targeted to small and medium-sized businesses, and applications are free at this time. Streak plans to launch premium services in the spring of next year.

According to company cofounder Aleem Mawaani , Gmail’s deep JavaScript and HTML complexity makes it difficult to build apps. But the platform itself has 450 million active users, making it a fertile place to build out services. The company says it imagines a whole host of other use cases besides CRM, including task management, bug tracking, deal flow and hiring.
