Latest Three-Speed Technology in Appliance Deployment Now Available

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

In technology, the theory of “if the wheel isn’t broken, don’t fix it” doesn’t hold true. Kognitio is taking the wheel and making it better and faster with the latest version of its appliance deployment strategy.

According to this InformationWeek report, Kognitio has announced its three-speed appliance strategy and then added a virtual online analytical process engine designed to be an all encompassing tool for business scenarios.

Pablo, named after Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, is an extension of Kognitio’s relational database, WX2. This latest cutting edge format of cube analysis offers multidimensional analysis to be created instantly. Other options of OLAP cubes are prebuilt and have few options for appliance deployment.

The competition for superior OLAP-analysis products has been fierce for years. Teradata (News - Alert) offers a virtual option linked with Excel and the broader Microsoft BI tools that has been available for quite some time. The company also developed a three-speed convenience three years ago for upgrades in standard products. Others like EMC and IBM Netezza (News - Alert) have followed suit and developed their own versions of high-performance appliance deployment.

With business users in mind, Kognitio designed a swift business intelligence tool called ‘A La Carte’ to broaden multidimensional analysis. This feature of Pablo offers users a way to initiate convergence with Microsoft (News - Alert) Excel, leading to endless possibilities of terabytes in appliance deployments.

As Kognitio does not have its own hardware, it must allocate complete appliance deployment using HP or IBM (News - Alert) hardware. This is an added benefit for the business customer in that each component is built based on specific customer specs. Kognitio actually took this idea and expanded on it by welcoming a three performance level system of appliance deployment: Lakes, Rivers and Rapids are identified by their analytical capabilities.

The basic appliance deployment, Lakes, centers on the evaluation of data at a low cost. Lakes offers 10 terabytes of storage and 48 compute corers per module which for only 17.36 memory-to-disk ratio space. This level would enable customers such as financial or telephone businesses to review a variety of records.

For a little more speed and range, customers should look at the Rivers appliance deployment. With 2.5 terabytes of storage, 48 cores per module and a 4.34 memory-to-disk ration, it gives users a reliable alternative to crucial analytical demands.

The best Kognitio has to offer in overall performance is the Rapids. This level of appliance deployment has key financial firms in mind. The ability to meet the demands of a high-performance office doing algorithmic trading is vital. The Rapids are the answer with 1.5 terabytes per module, 96 cores of processing and 2.92 memory-to-disk ratio.

This latest version of Kognitio’s Pablo for WX2 is operative now without pricing availability. Of the 30 customers, 15 are hosted by Kognitio’s WX2 appliance deployments.
