SoftLayer Partners with OS NEXUS for Dedicated Mass Storage Appliance Deployment Solution

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

SoftLayer (News - Alert) Technologies, a provider of cloud, dedicated, and managed hosting solutions, has just inked a partnership with appliance deployment solutions provider OS Nexus in order to launch QuantaStor Storage Servers.

The partnership is expected to deliver highly cost-effective and scalable appliance deployment solutions for mass storage. Customers will find applications in a wide range of high performance storage solutions including private cloud storage which eliminate CAPEX requirements that often hinder rapid deployments.

"When you need massive storage, having the right amount is just one part of the equation," said Nathan Day, chief scientist for SoftLayer, in a statement. "The more storage you have, the more you need location independence, global access, and robust tools to manage it.”

The SAN (iSCSI) + NAS (NFS) storage system delivers advanced storage features including thin-provisioning, and remote-replication. With these capabilities, QuantaStor Storage Server is suitable for a broad set of applications including VM application deployments and virtual desktops, as well as web and application servers.

The use of virtual machine technology drives down appliance deployment costs. The QuantaStor Storage Server delivers the same economics for storage by offering the perfect combination of performance economics, scalability and manageability required by enterprise customers.

QuantaStor Storage Server offers iSCSI support for 1GbE and 10GbE Client support for Windows XP, 7, 2003 Server, 2008 Server; VMware ESX/ESXi; Windows Hyper-V; Macintosh OS X; XenServer 5.x; and Linux. It also supports NFSv3 and NFSv4.

In a related industry announcement, appliance deployment provider NEI (News - Alert) said it is participating at the ATCA Summit 2011, taking place from November 1-2.

On November 1, Austin Hipes, vice president of technology at NEI, will present “Using Private Cloud Techniques with AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) Platforms” as part of the Applications Track’s “New Applications” session 2-101 at the annual event, being held at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose, California.
