OpTier Rebrands Application Performance Management Product

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing

As new complexities disrupt business and IT, assuring “always-on” business has become a significant challenge for enterprises today. Delivering always-on business in today’s complex IT environment means assuring immediate user response with faster transactions while being nimble enough to shift gears at any given time.

Business application performance management OpTier has rebranded its product to “OpTier Always-on APM (News - Alert)” in an effort to emphasize the company’s products help assure businesses are “always on.”

“OpTier’s rebranding to focus on the always-on nature of its approach to APM aligns well with customer needs to constantly manage and optimize end to end application performance and end user experience inside and outside company firewalls,” according to industry analyst Mary Johnston Turner of IDC (News - Alert)

“As business applications become more complex and dynamic, enterprise IT teams need accurate analytics and insight 7/24 in order to keep the business operating effectively,” said Johnston Turner, who is IDC research vice president of Enterprise Systems Management (News - Alert) Software.

IT has evolved to be more distributed and modular, with complex architectures now undergoing another phase as cloud and mobile technologies are adopted, OpTier (News - Alert) said in a company statement.

Therefore, traditional approaches to APM such as legacy silo-based solutions do not always deliver always-on business – OpTier said that even new solutions that take cloud, for instance, into account are tactical in nature, focusing on the new element in the picture but failing to deliver true end-to-end support for the whole of the IT estate.

OpTier’s customers are Fortune 1000 companies, which need to be always on to remain competitive, according to Mark Thompson, president of OpTier.

“They have been investing in APM and BSM solutions for many years but find that these ‘sometimes-on’ tools do not cut it, leaving IT guessing and scrambling while business is impacted,” Thompson said. “A singular focus on always-on business allows OpTier to help customers find and fix problems faster, avoid outages proactively and be resilient to the impact of change by tracking all user interactions anytime, anywhere.”

Under the rebrand all the product components of the OpTier BTM suite will now be renamed OpTier Always-on APM. OpTier's cross-silo, business-transaction approach to APM is based on its ACT (Active Context Tracking) technology that tracks every transaction over any architecture.

OpTier also recently announced the new release of its flagship offering under the new brand, OpTier Always-on APM version 4.5 with enhancements.
