Spread Networks, a telecommunications provider, revealed that its Chicago-to-New York fiber backbone is equipped with 100G technology.
Spread’s system platform is now capable of supporting a full-fill capacity of 80 wavelengths at 100Gbps, allowing up to 8 Tbps (Terabits per second) of data transfer per fiber pair and it is stated to be powered by ADVA Optical Networking’s (News - Alert) FSP 3000 optical hardware.
Spread’s 14.6 millisecond round-trip ultra-low latency Chicago-New York Wavelength service reportedly set a new standard for latency and the company claimed that there are no other network in the region that can match its track record on latency, availability and customer service. Customers will not experience any kind of service impact due to the introduction of 100G technology into the network.
Christoph Glingener, CTO at ADVA Optical Networking commented, “Spread Networks is a company that is continually focused on raising the bar, of anticipating its customers' demands and then exceeding them. So are we. Our 100G Core technology has been developed for some of the most advanced networks in the world. It's been specifically built for customers who need to transport data faster, farther and more securely than ever before. It's something the enterprise community, especially the financial sector has grown to depend on.”
ADVA explained that its FSP 3000 is a scalable WDM transport solution speci?cally designed for service providers and large enterprises looking for ?exibility and cost-ef?ciency in multiplexing, transporting and protecting high-speed data, storage and video applications. The FSP 3000 facilitates bandwidth scale and service ?exibility in access, backhaul, metro and long-haul networks, while supporting the creation of new revenue opportunities for high-speed OTN, Ethernet and storage services.
In related news, NYSE Euronext deployed ADVA FSP 3000 and Sidera Networks (News - Alert) was announced as the integrated wholesaler for Spread Networks.
