Content consumption by both consumers and businesses are at an all-time high; the telecom companies and multi-service operators are rolling out new innovative services for generating new stream of revenues. Providers are on the lookout for new technologies to address this huge demand for higher bandwidth. In an effort to allow the global telco and cable multiservice operators roll out new, enhanced services, Broadcom (News - Alert) has introduced the BCM5553x family, 10G-EPON Optical Line Terminals (OLTs).
“Broadcom's BCM5553x family of 10G OLT SoCs builds on the market's most complete EPON and GPON product portfolio, enabling a new class of services previously unavailable via other forms of broadband and creating revenue-generating services for global telco and cable multi-service operators while reducing CapEx and OpEx,” said Greg Fischer, vice president and general manager of Broadcom, in a statement.
Touted as the industry's highest-density dual, quad and octal port single-chip 10G-EPON OLTs, BCM5553 is compliant with global industry standards and specifications and capable of addressing high-speed connectivity and quality of service (QoS) requirements of residential triple-play services including video-on-demand (VoD), HD-IPTV (News - Alert), voice over IP (VoIP) and high-speed Internet (HIS).
The BCM5553x series of OLT system-on-chips (SoCs) deliver 10 times more bandwidth and allows the OEMs to address 10G FTTx deployments with one silicon platform.
Together with BCM55030 ONU, BCM5553x can deliver delivers a complete high-performance chipset platform, Broadcom explained in a statement.
The end-to-end solution allows system OEMs to address telco and cable multiservice operator (MSO) markets with faster time-to-market, lower power and cost per port and uncompromising carrier-grade quality of service (QoS) for next-generation FTTX access networks.
Broadcom’s entire end-to-end portfolio of high performance EPON solutions is currently available. The BCM5553x product family is being offered with a complete 8x 10G EPON reference design platform to enable fast time-to market 10G EPON OLT designs. The platform includes the BCM55538 8x 10G OLT, BCM88350 200 Gbps TM/PP and switch with connectivity options to Broadcom's multi-core CPUs and knowledge-based processors (KBP). The BCM55030 10G symmetric ONU is also available for production designs immediately.
“In the Asia Pacific region and especially in China, major operators are investing in heavily in EPON, a trend we expect to continue throughout 2015. As focus increases on introducing subscribers to the new infrastructure, scalable and flexible 10G EPON OLT solutions such as Broadcom's BCM5553x series of SoCs will play an important role in increasing adoption rates over the next three years,” analyst at Infonetics Research (News - Alert), Jeff Heynen observed.
Broadcom recently introduced the BCM51030 devices with VersaLineTM Digital-Pre-Distortion technology. Delivering the industry's widest bandwidth support for wireless base stations and emerging HetNet radio applications, the new solution offers the full functionality of a digital front end (DFE) platform on a single chip with up to 10x wider bandwidth support to address fragmented spectrum.
