“This is an excellent opportunity with a growing telecommunications company,” tw telecom explained in a recent job posting. “As a Senior Complex Engineer for tw telecom, you'd be responsible for working with our Customer Care organization,” the company added. “This position will support tw Elite customers with planning, engineering, deployment, life cycle management, and maintenance of their services and networks.”

The senior complex engineer will spend a good portion of his/her time working with account managers and service managers in tw telecom’s Customer Care organization. Among the tasks are reviewing SMs, TTs, writing MOPs, designing reviews, completing comprehensive network audits, creating network drawings and completing other engineering work.

The right candidate will also have the opportunity to the lead the team in different projects.

The job of the senior complex engineer calls for the execution of a variety of additional tasks as well, including: providing leadership for design of customer applications and enhancement of existing networks and services; developing business cases to obtain approval for equipment to support highly reliable networks; providing technical support to sales, NOC (News - Alert), and field operations on technologies and standards; evaluating non-standard requests for deployment feasibility by working with architecture and external vendors; and leading NAO, Tier II, Service Delivery, Customer Care, and Field Ops in the validation of services and designs, among other things.

The ideal candidate will have strict customer focus, be adaptable and be ready and eager to contribute to team success. Prospective candidates must have at least a four-year college degree with courses in engineering, electronics or business management, five to seven years experience in the enterprise or service provider network environment, experience and/or knowledge working in Layer 1,2 and 3 networks, and an understanding of network operations and trouble tickets.
