Overture's Ethernet Smart Demarcation Solution Recognized for Innovation

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Overture, a provider of carrier and business Ethernet edge and aggregation services to service providers and network operators, won the 2012 Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award in the "Best Business Service Innovation" category.

Now in its sixth year, the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award recognizes the best innovations from service providers and equipment vendors at the frontier of today's telecommunications landscape.

Overture won this award along with Colt Technology Services, the information delivery platform for European businesses. Colt, in partnership with Overture, has been delivering best-in-class business Ethernet services for organizations across Europe.

Overture's optical Ethernet edge devices are critical for Colt's delivery of reliable, high-performance services. The business Ethernet solution has been deployed on more than 200 of Colt's Ethernet E-NNIs and thousands of customer sites.

Both companies were recognized for their deployment of an Ethernet smart demarcation project designed to provide customers with increased service performance, and SLA reporting and service assurance to off-net locations across Europe and the U.S.

"The ability to consistently deliver best-in-class service quality and performance, as well as the next-generation features that our customers demand is vital to Colt's continued success in the global marketplace,” said Henry Bohannon, head of Ethernet and IP services, Colt.

“An essential part of fulfilling this strategy is ensuring that our off-net customers experience the same level of exceptional service as our on-net users -- something Overture has been instrumental in helping us achieve," Bohannon added.

The Overture 20 series of optical Ethernet edge devices provides service demarcation and remote end-to-end control while minimizing the need for site visits. These solutions allow Colt's off-net Ethernet service customers to benefit from an improved customer experience and improved SLA conformance by integrating the standards-based management functions adjacent to the customer interface on Colt's equipment.

"Business service applications require unfettered access to dependable, high-speed bandwidth and cutting-edge features, regardless of location or connection point within the network. Colt's dedication to outstanding service delivery and continued technology innovation has made this a reality for thousands of their customers around the world," said Jeff Reedy, CEO, Overture, in a statement.

Recently Overture Networks (News - Alert) announced it is deploying two of its solutions to Iceland’s trunk and access networks operator Mila to help meet the rapidly rising mobile bandwidth demand. The solutions – Overture 1400 and 4800 – are helping to meet the challenges telecom operators face.
