MRV Communications (News - Alert), a provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, has expanded its OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet Access portfolio with the ability to deliver full range of L2 Carrier Ethernet, MPLS and IP routing services.

Service providers can deliver these next-generation services for a broad range of applications from business Ethernet to mobile backhaul to Internet Protocol television (IPTV (News - Alert)) to Carrier Ethernet-enabled access to cloud services.

The new business Ethernet solution features a complete demarcation-to-aggregation solution which comprises of the OptiSwitch 906G and OptiSwitch 9244-1210G models. 

The service allows service providers to create, offer and deliver new service options and higher capacities, including 10GE backbone transport for aggregated Carrier Ethernet traffic and 10GE port optimization for the provider edge.

OptiSwitch 906G is a next-generation CE2.0 demarcation solution with built-in flexibility to address a wide range of Ethernet deployment scenarios. It offers a full range of Layer 2 to Layer 3 IP services including L2 Carrier Ethernet, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and IPv4/IPv6 routing.

 The OptiSwitch 9244-1210G is a first mile, 10GE Carrier Ethernet packet optical aggregation platform that offers FE, GE, 2.5G and 10GE speeds and consequently offloads provider edge router ports. The solution also offers a very high port density to form factor ratio with lowest relative power consumption for non-blocking the architecture with a total capacity of 200GB.

Together, the new OptiSwitch models offer unique 2.5G speed that enables service providers to offer higher speed services without the cost of a 100GE port, opening new revenue streams for service providers without adding additional costs. 

The OptiSwitch product family is one of the first Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert) (MEF)-compliant Carrier Ethernet 2.0 solutions.
