Equinix (News
- Alert), Inc. is an operator of International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in 30 markets. IBX data centers deliver operational expertise, standards compliance and physical security to safeguard valuable information, home to an increasing number of large enterprises, as well as robust digital ecosystems for cloud, mobility, content and financial services.
Equinix expanded its reach by opening a new IBX data center, known as MI3 located 44 miles from Miami. Driven by strong demand from customers in the network, cloud and content and digital media industries, the new facility in Boca Raton provides data center services in the greater Miami metropolitan area and critical overseas connectivity to the commercial centers of Latin America.
This is the third Equinix data center in the area and provides critical overseas connectivity. For network customers, MI3 is a key hub for domestic and international routes, adjacent to several landing stations and offers the lowest latency route to Brazil via GlobeNet. MI3 will provide 31,300 square feet of floor space, with additional options for future expansion. Located outside of the evacuation zone for up to category 5 hurricanes, MI3 is ideal for business continuity requirements.
Any interruption in production operations represents potential losses in revenue and reputation. Equinix IBX data centers are highly resilient and have long been known as the place to protect and connect your critical computing environment. Equinix Business Continuity solutions include technology, space and people. Business Continuity Trading Room (BCTR) offerings are available in the U.S., EMEA, and Asia-Pacific to protect and monitor trading operations for financial firms. Business Continuity services are offered in select financial markets around the globe
tw telecom (News - Alert), a provider of business Ethernet, intelligent network and managed services, is one of the customers deploying at MI3. tw telecom will expand its Equinix footprint into MI3 to support growing customer demand for its carrier Ethernet services, and to reach a rich ecosystem of cloud service providers and enterprise customers operating in Equinix data centers.
“Expanding our presence into the new Equinix MI3 location was an easy decision,” said Tom Marx, president of National Sales, Wholesale Services for tw telecom, in a statement. “With our launch of the industry’s first national Ethernet NNI access service based on MEF (News - Alert) 33 standards, enterprise customers and international carriers now have another choice to access our national footprint. As a major player in the data center space, Equinix is well positioned to deliver a marketplace that aligns with our strategies of enhancing service and identifying new business opportunities.”
tw telecom’s E-Access is part of its next-generation Ethernet suite and includes an easily scalable set of advanced features and functionality with modular design parameters, which allow for various configuration options. The E-Access solution is made up of the External Network to Network Interconnection (ENNI), the E-Access operator virtual connection (OVC) and the user-network-interface (UNI) or another ENNI owned by the same service provider. Service providers can get Ethernet access for thousands of enterprise customers and buildings from a single connection from tw telecom’s network, which serves more than 75 markets.
“Platform Equinix brings connectivity options, particularly for next-generation cloud services, for our enterprise customers in a wide range of industries, including healthcare, government, financial services, retail, technology and education,” said Marx. “We are now in 22 Equinix data centers around the world and Platform Equinix continues to help drive our business by quickly bringing new service offerings to our 27,000 customers or even connecting with new customers through the Equinix Marketplace. The potential to do additional business in South America via MI3 is an exciting opportunity, as that region is a current hotbed for growth.”
Other customers include Allied Fiber, Congent Communications, FiberLight, Inteliquent, Neutrona Networks and Sidera Networks (News - Alert).
