tw telecom to Ensure Connectivity at NANOG 57

By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Web Editor

Today, consumers and businesses alike depend on the Internet in order to complete daily tasks. Worldwide, there are 2.2 billion e-mail users, 4.3 billion e-mail clients, more than 634 million websites and total traffic e-mail gained per day is 144 billion.

Reliable, fast and efficient Internet networks are absolutely critical in today’s high-tech society.

tw telecom (News - Alert), a provider of managed data, Internet and voice networking solutions to businesses and large organizations throughout the U.S., will serve as the connectivity partner for the North American Network Operators Group (NANOG (News - Alert)) at the NANOG 57 conference in Orlando, an educational and operational forum that collaborates to make the Internet better through the coordination and dissemination of technical information related to backbone/enterprise networking technologies and operational practices.

tw telecom is providing 300 Mbps of Internet connectivity to the meeting venue as part of the sponsorship.

“Network connectivity is critical for us at this conference,” said Betty Burke, NANOG executive director. “And we are very pleased with tw telecom’s ability to immediately respond to our needs and deliver the highest quality of service for Internet connectivity.”

tw telecom is one of the three largest providers of business Ethernet in the U.S., connecting nearly 17,000 commercial buildings to its fiber network in 75 metro areas. It offers solutions for business continuity, collaboration and connection, the cloud, managed services and security to a variety of industries, including education, financial services, healthcare, technology and government.

In addition to business Ethernet, the company provides security, transport and wavelengths, voice and IP and managed services.

“NANOG had a need and we were able to deliver, just like we do for all of our customers in Orlando and throughout the country,” said Susan Sarna, vice president and general manager for tw telecom in Orlando. “Our fiber network is resilient, our product portfolio is robust and our commitment to customers is rock solid.”

The company’s E-Line services can be leveraged to connect two or more customer locations within a metropolitan area or between markets using the tw telecom national business Ethernet platform. This network infrastructure is dedicated solely to Layer 2 services and traffic, which means the E-Line traffic is kept separate from the IP core and all Layer 3 (public Internet) data services. As more businesses opt for cloud computing solutions, tw telecom's managed business Ethernet and E-Line products make sure customers’ connections are always up and running productively — taking a major worry (and expense) off customers’ minds.

Its Dynamic Capacity and E-Access products were recently recognized with the 2012 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year awards for their innovation in business communications. Dynamic Capacity allows enterprise customers to double or triple their network capacity in seconds to meet immediate business demands or to schedule increased bandwidth for business applications or a certain ad-hoc need. They can then return to their original committed information rate in seconds.

E-Access is part of tw telecom’s next-generation Ethernet suite and includes an easily scalable set of advanced features and functionality with modular design parameters, which allow for various configuration options.
