As fourth quarter numbers come in, they are providing a picture of which sectors of enterprise solutions are growing sluggishly – if at all – and which sectors are showing impressive growth. One of the latter includes business process management (BPM), and analyst group IDC (News - Alert) has recently released impressive numbers for BPM growth in Asia.

The group’s IDC’s Asia/Pacific Semiannual Application Deployment Software Tracker has found that the BPM and middleware market in the Asia/Pacific region, excluding Japan (APEJ) region grew 14.6 percent to U.S. $1.03 billion in 2010. It is expected to grow 17.2 percent to U.S. $1.2 billion in 2011 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.4 percent from 2011 to 2015, said the analyst group in a press release.

“The double-digit growth in these two years can be explained by the desire for organizations to constantly optimize their business processes to support growth during expansion and similarly, to streamline operations and reduce costs during recession, making it almost ‘recession-proof,’” said Chris Zhang, market analyst for IDC’s Asia/Pacific Application Deployment Software Research.

The strong growth was attributed to a number of factors, including high IT spending and technology adoption in both China and India, continued strong growth in Australia, increased momentum for businesses to stay relevant and competitive, and the larger IT spending required to support businesses’ growth and expansion. In addition, BPM is considered one of those “recession proof” technologies that pays for itself quickly, since it allows an enterprise to work smarter and more efficiently.
