EQT Partners Acquires UC4 to Boost Firm's Service Reach

By Robbie Pleasant, TMCnet Contributor

EQT Partners has just made quite the purchase, acquiring UC4 Software from the Carlyle Group.

UC4 Software is the largest independent vendor of IT process automation software, purchased in 2006 by Carlyle Europe Technology Partners, and is now being sold to EQT Partners for 220 million Euros (approximately $272 million).

It is expected that EQT, a Swedish private equity firm, will accelerate UC4’s internal sales and expand its product offerings for application, release and cloud automation.

UC4 helps companies automate their IT systems, which has become particularly sought after now that so many systems are becoming cloud-based, and has customers including BT (News - Alert) Global Services and a handful of universities.

As per the acquisition, EQT will obtain complete control of UC4, which has a base of over 2,000 customers, and earns about $76 million (62 million euros) a year. Further details have not yet been revealed, but the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

“We consider UC4 a highly attractive growth company and are impressed by its customer base and strong automation offering,” said Per Franzén of EQT. “The new Supervisory Board, consisting of a mix of highly relevant and experienced EQT Industrial Advisors, looks forward to support UC4's management team in driving further expansion into the rapidly growing Cloud Automation market.”

According to Jason Liu (News - Alert), CEO at UC4: "EQT's industrial focus with a very strong line-up of Industrial Advisors will be of great value to UC4 and to us as a management team when developing the Company over the next years."

This is a smart move from EQT. UC4 is big, but it’s still growing, with a growth of over 21 percent software license revenue this past fiscal year, so this investment is very likely to pay off for EQT.

With a loyal but ever-increasing customer base and a focus on helping customers get and use next-gen IT service models, it’s poised for success.
