Tools for Increasing the Capabilities of Workload Automation Next Year

By Frank Griffin, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Automation improves productivity and reduces human error. In the past, automation was thought of as a tool used in manufacturing, but know it is applied almost everywhere – including the high-tech industry.

This is especially true in networks that require constant surveillance, upgrades and maintenance to keep them running. As BYOD (bring your own device) policies and cloud-based services become the norm, automation will play a critical role in ensuring a catastrophic event doesn’t takes place.

By applying some of these solutions, organizations will be able to save costs, improve existing online services and offer new services.

Business Intelligence

Business intelligence (BI) is an umbrella that covers a host of applications and sets of technology. It is for analyzing, reporting, forecasting, data mining, statistical analysis and decision support systems.

Department heads in an organization have to have access to this information to make informed decisions. The need to have this information in real time means workload automation must become an essential part to provide the information when it is needed.

Predictive Analysis

If networks are not used efficiently, peak times can turn in to bottlenecks and down times are underutilized. The right predictive analysis system is able to keep network traffic flowing with optimal speeds at all times. Analysis based on previous history of all the systems that make up the network, including service level agreements (SLA) and their customers, gives IT managers the information they need to meet demand and adjust accordingly.

Service Level Agreements

SLA contracts provide detailed information to their customer on how they use a network. As business processes start relying on more automation, IT will increasingly play an important role. Online financial transactions, customer support, work orders and other services are being delivered using the Web. IT automation will ensure processes with the high priority will be delivered to their intended destination by making resources available when they’re needed.

Combining Technologies

Every available resource has to be exploited to provide the most service to the organization, and this requires flexibility from the IT department so it can adapt to any situation and still be productive.

Complimentary technologies such as BI and business process automation (BPA) can deliver services by combining business functions and technologies.

Self-serve Automation

Applying the right automation systems requires a thorough evaluation of the organization so it can be implemented. The goal of self-serve automation is to provide processes and workflows from a workload automation service catalog so it can be applied without IT department administrators.

The future of this technology will make it possible to execute a process automatically by any information worker in the organization from a scripted routine.

The number of networks is increasing at a very fast rate and automation has to be an integral part of this growth. Without an intelligent workload automation system in place, critical business transactions will not be processed correctly and errors will be common place.

Workload automation schedules and manages workload processing across the entire IT environment in real time or near real time.
