Southwest Airlines Unveils its New San Antonio Customer Support and Services Center

By David Gitonga, TMCnet Contributing Writer

After more than 30 years, Southwest Airlines is finally moving its Customer Support and Services (CS&S) Center to its new location at Interstate 35 and O’Connor in the City of San Antonio. The new facility offers more than 60,000 square feet of floor space, allowing for future growth expansion plans. The CS&S department manages the Albuquerque, Houston, Chicago, Phoenix, and Oklahoma City call centers, while also handling over 60 million calls per year that come through its 1-800-I-FLY-SWA number. Moving from its former location (off Medical Drive, which employed 478 people) the new facility has extra space that will add 322 new jobs, which is good news for the City of San Antonio.

Speaking about the new opportunities for the residents of San Antonio and for the airline, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Southwest Airlines, Gary Kelly, said that “Southwest Airlines’ commitment to the City of San Antonio grows stronger every day.” Mr. Kelly also said that after the recent announcement of the new service from San Antonio to Mexico City on its newly acquired subsidiary AirTran Airways, the company is now expanding its “roots with a new Customer support and Services Center.” Mr. Kelly pointed out the airline’s commitment to creating jobs for the people of San Antonio and praised San Antonians for providing “one of the best workforces in the country both at and off airport.”

The Mayor of San Antonio, Julian Castro, additionally had some encouraging words to say about the new development, stating that his city was proud of being part of Southwest Airlines expansion plans during tough times. He explained that he was confident that this was the beginning of more growth within the company, as it establishes its largest customer service center in the city. His sentiments were backed by Sheryl Sculley, the City Manager, who said that by retaining the 478 jobs and bringing in 322 new jobs to the area, this would serve as a “catalyst for economic growth, job creation and revitalization in this part of the city.”

Southwest Airlines currently serves 73 cities in 38 states with 49 daily nonstop flights from San Antonio.
