“Mississippians face a wide variety of disasters year round. That's why it is important for all of us to be prepared,” says Governor Phil Bryant on the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency website. “When disasters strike in Mississippi it is important for every citizen to be prepared. That means having a disaster supply kit on hand to get you and your family through the immediate hours and sometimes days following a major disaster.” This isn’t the only thing getting citizens by, and the great state of Mississippi has made that clear by implementing a call center to be opened to the general public for questions regarding Topical Storm Isaac.

If any residents have questions pertaining to Tropical Storm Isaac – which some are even projecting to become a hurricane as brutal as 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, which claimed thousands of lives and caused millions of dollars in damages – they are being instructed to call toll free 1-866-519-6362.

Additionally, members of the media are being asked to call 1-866-920-6362 for interview requests and any other additional information and this number is not for public use. See below a brief preparedness video including a message and tips from Governor Phil Bryant himself.

As mentioned above, Isaac is making many reminisce about one of the strongest storms to impact the U.S. coast over the last century –Hurricane Katrina, which carried winds of up to 175 mph and was classified as a strong category four hurricane. Claiming the lives of thousands, this deadly natural disaster may precede Isaac if it grows into a hurricane, which even seems to be following the eerily similar path Katrina claimed in 2005.
