Erin Harrison recently interviewed Margaret Dawson, vice president of product management at Hubspan, at Cloud Expo 2010.
One common element of cloud communications-related conversations has to do with a veil of confusion that seems to be lingering over the industry.
Margaret touched on the cloud and business integration (B2B). When a company needs to exchange messaging with a community outside of their messaging, such as customers, they need to gather that information or shop at your online store need to have their traffic mediated through various systems, exchanging information in real time while respecting all security boundaries.
Security was another hot topic – especially as there are several concerns about security and data protection concerning the cloud. Customers are concerned with how protected their data will be when hosted on the cloud.
But vendors that meet compliance standards are considered relatively safe, to ensure that data is being protected at the highest common denominator.
A cloud solution is still hosted in a data center – someone is still out there managing that data center, managing that infrastructure. Security, control and compliance are still players in the game.
But regardless of concerns, the move towards the cloud is here.
