Just a few days ago, TMC’s (News - Alert) Group Editorial Director Erik Linask sat down with Sanjay Srinivasan, CTO of Telesphere, at Comptel 2011 in Las Vegas to talk about what the cloud communications company has to offer and how it works with its different clients.

Telesphere, a nationwide cloud communications service provider with customers in more than 44 states, provides small and medium businesses services and features typically available only to larger corporations.

“Telesphere (News - Alert) is a hosted Voice over IP (VoIP) service provider” Srinivasan explained in a TMCnet video. “We provide business phone service and network services to businesses; we do that on our own private backbone network.”

As a provider of hosted services, Telesphere sees both small and medium businesses and some of the larger customers as well; however, the company first put itself on the map by helping  small and medium businesses.

“Life started that way but very quickly we are getting into situations where our customer profile has gone up market,” Srinivasan said. “… We are seeing more and more multi-site customers that are spread nationwide. They really like the model of having to not worry about their network and phone service and, most importantly, having one user experience wherever their employees may be.”

Telesphere offers fully hosted voice service across the U.S., to a business’ office or home office, directly to Cisco (News - Alert), Polycom and other IP phones. The cloud communications company can also use its SIP trunking to enhance its customers existing PBX with the latest in IP features.

“With features like 4 digit dialing, your office in Phoenix can feel like it’s just down the hall from your office in New York,” Telesphere officials explain.

Through its work with its customers, Telesphere has noted a new trend in which businesses value the hosted capabilities offered a little bit more than the cost benefits. Srinivasan said he not hearing as much from customers that they are looking for the cheapest possible service but, rather, that they are looking to strike a balance between cost and quality.

“Cost is not the always the determining factor for them,” Srinivasan said. “They do factor in the productivity gains, the benefits for disaster recovery, the mobility of their workforce. All of these are now factoring into their decisions.”

Part of that quality has been demands for video services such as video conferencing.

“When we go back to the multi-site customer profile that’s getting more and more comfortable with the hosted model, video becomes a natural model fit for them especially given the cost of traveling,” Srinivasan said. The cloud communications company is currently working on a project like that.
