Desktone, Inc., the pioneer of cloud-hosted Desktops as a Service, has launched the industry’s first cloud-hosted virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) blueprint for service providers.

Officials with Desktone said that Desktone blueprint, which is designed to give service providers everything they need to provide compelling, profitable cloud offerings as quickly as possible, includes a software platform, a comprehensive reference architecture for operations, and a quick-start environment that has all required infrastructure and operations.

“Service providers are looking for a true cloud-based desktop ‘as a service’ solution and they’re finding that terminal services and traditional VDI can’t provide the flexibility, performance or ROI they require. These technologies, which were built for on-premise deployments, cannot just be moved to a cloud service delivery model,” said Peter McKay, CEO of Desktone, in a statement.

“We’ve been fielding a tremendous amount of inquiries from service providers and managed service providers (MSPs) that want to leverage our expertise for hosted VDI in the cloud. We developed this blueprint over the years to meet their needs,” said McKay.

He said that with this announcement, the company continues to drive the industry forward, making it much easier, faster and more cost-effective than ever for service providers, and ultimately end customers, to take advantage of VDI in the cloud.

Steve Brasen, research director at Enterprise Management Associates, said that service providers realize that businesses want an easy, affordable way to provide full desktops to their employees. Desktop virtualization in the cloud is ideal for this, but figuring out how to design and cost-effectively build a cloud-hosted VDI environment can be extremely challenging.

“By providing guidance on optimal configurations and best practices, as well as the foundational software platform, Desktone’s blueprint simplifies the process for rapid VDI service implementation, enabling service providers to achieve a significant competitive advantage,”said Brasen.

TMCnet recently reported that Flagship Restaurant Group, which owns restaurants in Nebraska and Texas, has selected Desktone for cloud-hosted virtual desktop infrastructure.

Officials with Desktone said that the company’s cloud is the industry’s only purpose-built product for delivering VDI in the cloud.

The cloud-hosted virtual desktop service would help to simplify desktop access for mobile employees, enhance collaboration, and gain the flexibility needed to support company growth, they said.
